Hats Off

The QMII, Liverpool waterfront, HDR

A photo of a man taking a photo of the Queen Mary II when she docked at Liverpool – the big ships are brilliant but do have the effect of minimising the ‘Wow!’ factor of anything else that visits, including the military ships, due to their sheer size.

Discarded

Umbrella discarded in the snow, Calderstones Park, Liverpool, UK

This umbrella had been discarded in Calderstones Park – the city’s parks descend into complete chaos at the first sign of any snow. Madness but it makes for great photo opportunities.

Liverpool Ferry Terminal

The new ferry terminal at the Pier Head, winner of the Carbuncle Cup 2009 – it’s certainly a building that divides opinion.

The Crown Princess

The cruise liner Crown Princess visits Liverpool – it’s great to see the crowds that come out every time a big ship comes in, the liner terminal has created a lot of interest since it opened.

Victoria Street Reflection

Shot of building reflected in restaurant window, Victoria Street, Liverpool

I love this building – reminds me of the Flat Iron building in New York.  The big window that the reflection is in is a restaurant/wine bar place – was getting some funny looks from the barman trying to get this shot.

Southport Air Show – Guinot Wing Walkers

The Guinot Wing Walkers performing at the Southport Air Show, 2009.  They put on a great, if terrifying, show – if you fancy having a go you can sign up here!  Rather you than me….

Southport Air Show 2009 – Red Arrows

The Red Arrows performing at the Southport Air Show, 2009.  The aircraft at the show vary from year to year but it’s always worth going if you know this lot are on – their display is always nothing short of incredible.

Queen Mary II

Shot of Queen Mary II visit to Liverpool, 20th October 2009, HDR image

The Queen Mary II visits Liverpool – by far the largest thing to come since the new liner terminal opened, she made an impressive addition to the waterfront.

Pinball Wizard

Smashed up pinball machine, off Hardman Street. Terrible waste - I definitely would have had it!

On Reflection

Reflection of the Royal Insurance building in office building opposite, North John Street. This is probably my favourite of all the photos I have taken.

Banksy

Banksy graffiti on the corner of Berry Street and Duke Street in Chinatown - depending on who you ask, this is either a rat or a cat. Cool either which way and one of the first things the council covered up at the start of Capital of Culture year (not for long thankfully, the irony was soon pointed out.)

Seel Street Graffiti

seel-street-graffiti

Graffiti on Seel Street – the smell from the rubbish here was unholy, a horrible mix of rubbish, sick and stale beer.  Very quick snap and move.

Cropper Street Graffiti

Graffiti on Cropper Street, which is an unusual street as it seems quite quiet and then 10 black cabs hurtle through at severe speed - apparently it's a well known taxi shortcut.

Silcocks Funland

Silcocks Funland in Southport - taken on a ferociously windy autumn day, this was as far from a fun day as I can think of but the arcade was still open and people were still visiting and sitting outside, sipping at coffee. This photo reminds me of seaside towns up and down Britain.

The Chinese arch at the top of Chinatown. The arch is the largest outside of China and Liverpools Chinatown is the oldest in Europe.

Casartelli Building, Duke Street

The Casartelli Building, Duke Street. This is not the original building - the original building was demolished after it fell into such a state of disrepair that it could not be saved. This new building was built to the exact layout as the old using as much material from the old building that could be saved.
